J'Leon before the fight in Detroit @The Masonic Temple |
It was approximately a year ago when this small, hip hop themed blogsite based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan came out to Vegas to meet a young undefeated fighter from Detroit, Michigan. As luck would have it, we personally made it a priority to come support Floyd Mayweather versus Miguel Cotto, so meeting one of Floyd's sparring partners who is from "The Mitten" was a win-win.
J'Leon's Fit for MayDay |
As we sat in a small quiet corner of the casino along with J'Leon's cousin James Love, we talked boxing, hip hop, and damn near everything else in between. What was supposed to be a 20 minute interview became almost two hours of sitting down and enjoying Vegas with some cool folks. During our conversation/interview, J'Leon spoke on where he would see himself in the near future. He told us that he would be a household name in the boxing world. Future Middleweight Champion of the World. Regardless of the odds and all the red tape linked with the statement, for some reason we believed him. The statement didn't come off as a fat chance statement like me wanting to play in the NBA. J said that he was born for this, and nothing was going to stop him.
A lot has happened since then. Later on that year, J'Leon signed with Mayweather Promotions. He stayed busy, and kept picking up the victories. We began to follow and talk with J'Leon on a semi-regular basis. It's nice to have someone you know well enough in the fight game to ask certain questions about what they seen in big fights. As time went, you could see the path opening up for J. First, a few fights get cancelled on a card and J'Leon gets to fight on national TV. Then J gets signed with The Money Team. Soon you see him fighting on Showtime!!! First fight party we have ever held for anyone not named Mayweather. Then came the fight back in Detroit earlier this year. This fight was also on Showtime, but we were in attendance. Now, TONIGHT, fighting on a Mayweather PPV card. The entire world will get to know J'Leon tonight. Once again we are out here, supporting BOTH J'Leon and Floyd.
J'Leon will be taking on his toughest opponent to date in Gabriel Rosado. Rosado is known for his no quit mentality and heart. This cat is from Philly, so we know it won't be easy. But this is destiny, we don't see anything happening but J's hand being raised at the end of this fight.
This is more than just a fighter fighting a fight. To the masses, this should be motivation. If you really want something, no matter where you come from, GO GET IT!!! Stay true to your vision, stay humble and let God open doors for you. Even with all the new found attention, the reality TV shows, J'Leon made it a point to make sure we stay in contact. That is not something many do once they have reached a certain level. Boxing will never die will cats like J'Leon heading up the new age. Make sure you are at the TV DIRECTLY at 9pm "our" time to witness history in the making!!! Much Love GLC Fam.
jleon is a true champ. man got talent.
